There were originally two figures, representing Mary and Joseph, made from papier maché. We don't know where they came from; they had been in our church for a very long time. They are essentially representations of outer garments only, with no attempt to depict details of faces, but they are very effective.
Later we added a small doll, intended to represent Jesus as a young child.
( It is an accident that the photograph depicts the figures very well; they are not detailed models, and not intended to be. )
